Logo Development

Here are a few logo design process shots that I’ve worked on. The first thing that we approach when designing a show package is to design the show logo. This is a crucial yet under-appreciated process in establishing the look and tone of the show. The logo needs to work in a variety of settings whether it’s across digital, print, 2nd or 3rd screen; logo’s need to stand on their own and need to be robust and distinct enough to carry the ‘brand’ of a show. It’s not rocket-science, there’s just a process that needs to happen in order to eliminate the traps of low-hanging fruit to choose a logo that is specific and unique to the show, this is especially true in today’s scattered screen environment where often-times a show-logo is the only graphic that a viewer will see to interface with the ‘brand’ or show. The process usually involves reading a series overview, scripts, watching any footage that’s available, in the end I always design with an idea of how the logo can animate which helps inform the boarding process.

Jets 360

I worked with Houses in Motion in developing the Jets 360 logo, which launched their streaming initiative on social media – facebook, newyorkjets.com, and the official Jet’s app. Jets 360 Live is a show hosted by the 360 team of reporters on the latest going on around the New York Jets.

Krypton

I had the privilege of designing and animating the initial Krypton show logo/ package for Syfy. It’s nice to see my logo take a life of it’s own and take a life of it’s own as the show progresses.

The Illustionists

The Illusionists was a reality show about the market for cutting-edge magic tricks. This team of magic experts travel America seeking out the newest and most-awe inspiring tricks, usually if it’s a trick that impresses them, the team will make a deal to acquire the rights to the trick and give the client a percentage of the sales. You can think of the Illusionists as David Blaine meets Pawn Stars. A lot of logos were designed for this show, I felt that magic + illusions was something I could take advantage of to come up with a clever show package, alas the show was ultimately killed because it was felt we already had a magic show in Wizard Wars and Troy: Street Magic.

Misc

Killer Contact

Killer Contact was a paranormal show in the same vein of Syfy’s iconic Ghosthunters series, the crew visits sites of massacres and hotspots of past murders in their attempts to invoke the ghosts of past serial killers.

Killer Contact process frames. Logo development. As we went through rounds, it soon became clear that the SVP wanted to incorporate a knife into the logo to connect the idea of serial killers since Killer Contact could we construed in different ways. Additionally from a design perspective, I was already thinking of ways to incorporate the knife into the logo reveal.

Fisheggs based out in LA, ended up doing the endpage for Killer Contact, not exactly what I envisioned for the show but still a good package that did the job.

Carvers

Carvers was a reality show which follows Ray Villafane and Andy Begholtz as they wield their crafts and tools of the trade to… carve. Yup this was a show about carving various things, from pumpkins to ice, to wood, chocolate; from high-brow events to low-brow fairs this show covered it all and cornered the niche in carving reality show. I was tasked with designing the logo for this show that ultimately would be used to create the promo packaging, show opens and various other print and digital elements.

Chillers: Killing Time Anti-Marathon

Killing Time Anti-Marathon were logo designs used for Chiller stunt weeks in which a dedicated block of time was set aside to marathon the first and last episodes of Harper’s Island as well as Buffy the Vampire Slayer back-to-back.

Winner Kills All Week

Winner Kills All Week logo designed for a week of movies where they all end with the last victim standing. It’s survival of the horror’s fittest. Hence the naming of this particular Chiller stunt week. I designed both black and white versions that would be used interchangeably that could be used in with different parts of our on-air packaging.

Cosworld

Cosworld would later become ‘Heroes of Cosplay‘ as we discovered that an adult-film shared the same name as Cosworld. Ofcourse it was only after the logo was designed, approved and we were already more than halfway into production that we had to change the name of the show.
